The Bay View Neighborhood Association has commenced a capital campaign to improve a public space (MPS Sijan Field | Kinnickinnic Avenue) and build Milwaukee's first Wheel Park – designed for skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters and skates. The project includes improving existing infrastructure with a new lighted soccer field, improved basketball courts and modern playground, all ADA-compliant.
The community continues to raise capital funds to complete this $200,000 investment. Currently, Milwaukee is the only city in the United States’ 30-most-populated-cities to not have a wheel-friendly public space for youth and adults. The BVNA believes in nurturing and improving safe spaces for youth activities. This project would set a precedent to other metro-Milwaukee neighborhoods and demonstrate the importance of keeping neighbors active, or engaged as spectators, through creating a new community epicenter of sports and wheels.
